  • FARMERS MARKET The Boyne City Farmers Market has moved indoors to the Red Barn next to the library on Park Street. For the third consecutive year, the winter market continues every Saturday at that location from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through April.
  • LET'S DO LUNCH
    Boyne Area Senior Center, 411 E. Division St., is open to the public for daily lunches. For seniors age 60+, the donation is $3, for ages 60 and under. $6. For daily information call 582 6682.

  • SENIOR CENTER DINNERS
    Boyne Area Senior Center is hosting night meals instead of lunches on Wednesdays. Dinner starts at 5 p.m. and serving continues until 6. Please join us for this endeavor and have dinner instead of lunch every Wednesday. Entertainment will also be provided each Wednesday.

  • SPAGHETTI DINNER
    With the help of Dennis Crissman and his talented food service students, the Child Study Club of Boyne City once again will be holding their Annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser. The club is a local non-profit group of mothers that has been helping the children of the Boyne area since 1945 through their support of more than a dozen programs that serve the area's youth. The dinner will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening, Jan. 10, at the Boyne City High School Commons. It will include spaghetti with meat or marinara sauce, salad bar, bread, beverage, and homemade desserts. Meal prices are $6 for adults and $4 for children. "Last year's dinner had a fantastic turnout and we are hoping to make this year's event an even bigger success!" said CSC member Kathy Anderson. "We are at the high school to take advantage of the home Boys' and Girls' Basketball games against TC St Francis.   • BENEFIT DINNER
    afé Sante will host a benefit for the Boyne City High School Hospitality Program from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17. The hospitality students will assist the restaurant's chefs in preparing a $25 prix fix menu that they designed, and 100 percent of the prix fix proceeds, as well as Northwoods Soda sales will go to help send the students to ProStart, a culinary and management competition in Lansing. Entertaining from 8 to 11 p. m. will be singer-songwriter sensation Rachel Brooke.

  • SNOWSHOE HIKE
    The Little Traverse Conservancy will be holding a snowshoe hike at The Hill Nature Preserve on West Clute Road, east of Charlevoix Street, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18. There will be hot chocolate and snacks at the viewing area where we will have amazing view of Lake Charlevoix and the surrounding area. January 21, 23, 24

  • BLOOD DRIVES
    Mother Nature is doing her best to keep people off the roads. As a result, the American Red Cross expects blood drive cancellations and low donor turnouts. Donors are urged to help make up the donations lost in the weather-impacted areas. Four blood drives have been scheduled in Boyne City and Boyne Falls:
    - Jan. 21 at the Boyne City Eagles Lodge, sponsored by Honeywell, 106 River St., 9:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
    - Jan. 23 at Concord Academy, 401 E. Dietz Road, 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
    - Jan. 24 at Boyne City High School, 1035 Boyne Ave., 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
    - Feb. 4 at Boyne Falls High School, 01662 M-75 South, 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

  • WINTERFEST
    Planned all-day activities include indoor sidewalk sales, a snow sculpture contest at Sunset Park (call 231-459-4007 for details), sledding, cross-country skiing and ice skating at Avalanche Preserve Recreation Area. Afternoon events feature kids' games and sleigh rides at Old City Park and a cross-country ski tour at The Hill Nature Preserve. There will also be a chili cook-off at Coldwell Banker Realtors; call 231-582-6554 to register. As the day winds down, there will be wine-tasting at The Wine Emporium from 4 to 7 p.m., star-gazing (cloud cover permitting) at Sunset Park and musical entertainment at select venues. Cafe Santé will feature Sean Bielby and Adam Engelman. Musical group Steppin' In It will be at Freshwater Art Gallery.

    Chef Emily Paquette of Frog Hollow will be making "Chili Recipes that will Knock-Your-Socks-Off AND Keep You Warm!" Also, for Boyne City Winterfest, children will learn about animals in winter and will make bird feeders to take home and help the birds through winter.
