  • LET'S DO LUNCH
    Boyne Area Senior Center, 411 E. Division St., is open to the public for daily lunches. For seniors age 60+, the donation is $3, for ages 60 and under. $6. For daily information call 582 6682.

  • Ice Rink Open
    The ice skating rink at Avalanche Park is now open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekends and 4 to 9 weekdays. And "Michigan's Best Sledding Hill" (as designated by "Michigan Blue" magazine) is right there, too, and a nice warming house with restrooms and free loaner skates and sleds. Say hi to Jerry Douglas, the new warming house attendant.

  • Farmers Market
    The Boyne City Farmers Market continues its winter hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at the red barn next to the Boyne District Library on Park Street. Cooking Corner features our very own chefs creating tasty dishes using market available products. The Boyne City Farmers Market is managed by the award-winning Boyne City Main Street Program.

  • Boyne City High School
    The Boyne City High School Robotics Team will host the regional 2015 FIRST Robotics Competition Kickoff on Saturday, Jan. 3, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. FIRST competitions challenge student teams to design and build a robot designed to perform prescribed tasks against other competitors. Students, under adult mentor guidance, also organize fund-raising, develop team skills and promote their efforts. More than 300 students from 20 area schools will attend the event, which begins the six-week period during which teams are permitted to design and build their robot in advance of the competition season. Students and mentors will attend workshops, learn from other teams, see robots from previous competitions, and hear about the 2015 challenge. Community members are invited to attend the event from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. to learn more about competitions, witness teams in action, and learn of opportunities to contribute or serve as a mentor.   • Winterfest
    Boyne City's Winterfest is set for Saturday, Jan. 24, with something fun for just about everyone. There will be horse-drawn sleigh rides from 12 to 2 p.m. and kids games from 1 to 3 p.m. at Old City Park, a snow sculpture contest and star gazing at Sunset Park, and a 3 p.m. Chili Cook-off with a dozen competing restaurants at Coldwell Banker Real Estate. New this year, the Boyne Mountain Cross-Country Ski Center will offer a free half-hour lesson at 1 p.m. and free snowshoeing on their trails from 1 to 3 p.m. For adults the festival will have a new fat tire bike race at noon at The Hill nature preserve, an 11 a.m. book reading and signing with "Side Door to Heaven for Hemingway" author David Wyant at Local Flavor Bookstore, a 3 p.m. cross-country ski tour at Young State Park, wine tasting from 4 to 7 p.m. at The "Wine Emporium, and live music from Under the Moon at Café Sante. Except for the fat tire bike race, all events are free.

  • Winter Festival
    Join in the winter fun on Saturday, January 31st from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mark your calendar for the Challenge Mountain Winter Festival, a community event with activities that are fun for all. Winter Festival fun includes: Enjoy horse drawn sleigh rides (11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) Maneuver the trails on a dog sled (2 to 4 p.m.) Experience the thrill of skiing Challenge Mountain using adaptive ski equipment Stop by the kid zone to go sledding, build a snow fort or create snow art Warm up under the pavilion with hot chocolate and s'mores. Fill up on hot dogs, drinks and treats in the main lodge.   • Camp Daggett
    On Jan. 31 and Feb. 28 from 5 to 9 p.m., experience the solitude of the wilderness as you snowshoe by torchlight at Camp Daggett. Admission is free, donations are encouraged, and snowshoes are available for all ages.
